About
Los Angeles · Since 2021Gaurav Shah is a Los Angeles–based cinematographer working across narrative features, commercials, music videos, branded content and documentary. Raised in Hyderabad, he started in live concert production before moving to the United States in 2016.
He earned a B.A. in Media Studies & Production at Temple University, where he shot for two Mid-Atlantic Emmy–nominated student programs, and an M.S. in Film & TV Production (Cinematography) at DePaul University. Years spent as a gaffer and key grip on short films and music videos shaped how he builds light today.
He owns and operates his own Steadicam rig and prefers to operate the camera himself. In pre-production he works through blocking and coverage with the director scene by scene, so the frame on the day is the one they planned together.
